Affordable Full-Arch Restoration with Implant-Supported Overdenture
The Dental Problem
Our 67-year-old patient had been wearing a traditional upper denture for years following complete tooth loss. His lower teeth had severely deteriorated due to advanced periodontal disease, requiring extraction. With limited financial resources, he needed an effective yet economical solution.
We recommended an implant-supported overdenture for the lower jaw. This cost-effective hybrid solution connects implants with a thin metal bar, offering superior stability and comfort compared to traditional dentures. The overdenture’s design minimally impacts speech and taste, allowing for quick adaptation. It requires simple maintenance, needing removal twice daily for cleaning.
Given the patient’s budget constraints, we focused on the lower jaw, and replacing the upper denture was not considered at this time.
Solution
After extracting the deteriorated teeth, we provided the patient with a temporary removable prosthesis. Once the necessary healing period had passed, we placed four implants to support the overdenture. Following another healing phase, the patient returned for the fitting of his custom-made final denture. The existing upper removable prosthesis was adjusted in the laboratory to improve aesthetics, comfort, and stability.
Result
The patient visited us three times over an 11-month period. We provided a solution that addressed his dental needs whilst considering his financial limitations. After fitting the final overdenture and the adjusted upper prosthesis, the patient returned to his home country satisfied with the results.
